BHRI organized several local volunteers to build rock erosion control structures in incised arroyos at Deep Dirt Farm Institute. Participants learned effective techniques for designing, planning and installing simple structures on their own property, and how to read the landscape to achieve best results. Rock material was provided through Deep Dirt’s concept to divert dozens of tons of discarded sidewalk concrete from failed work at the local high school, away from the local dump to the Farm. The move saved the town of Patagonia $8,000 and provided material for arroyo stabilization structures.
