Historically, what has been the main grazer of native grasses in the grasslands of Santa Cruz county? Nope, not deer. Nor antelope. We’ll give you a hint – they’re all over the place: in our gardens, homes, cars, and maybe even on your children… Grasshoppers!

There are 46 species of grasshopper on the National Audubon Society’s Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch, many of which are edible. Convert those beautiful native grasses into delicious & nutritious meals. Here’s a link to help you find a recipe that works for your family
