Water Harvesting Workshop 

Friday, September 12 at Patagonia Union High School. 1:30-5:00pm

Join in part two of the pollinator garden & living laboratory. We’ll be creating terraces & water harvesting basins.

Bring shovels, wheelbarrows, sturdy shoes, eye protection, hat, and a swimsuit for a dip in the pool afterwards.

Grass ID Workshop

Sunday, September 14 at Deep Dirt Field Institute

We’ll be collecting grasses and making our own field guide to grasses of Patagonia.

Potluck social follows. Free 1 gallon native grass plant for the first 20 participants to arrive. Bring a hand lupe, magnifying glass, and notebook. Wear sturdy footwear, bug repellant, water, and a smile 🙂

Grassland Insects: Delicious Delights & Other Matters

Panelists:

Liz Bernays, entomologist, will introduce the topic of insects & plants in the grasslands.

Jason Botz, USDA agriculture inspector & entomologist, will demonstrate some grasshopper catching, processing and storage methods. He will introduce other tasty treats, including: giant desert centipedes, scorpions, and his favorite: soft-shell cicadas!

Binx Selby, founder of the Balance Point Institute & local author, will discuss the health benefits of eating insects.

Kim & Cindy, adventurous wildcrafters,  will tell stories of foraging & subsisting off grasshoppers from their Arizona Trail journey.

Bring a sense of adventure & a dish of locally-sourced food to share. Learn More.
