Job Posting: Nursery/Farm Technician

This full-time 25-week American Conservation Experience (ACE) position will work at the MAPP Center in Patagonia. The position will assist with establishing field trials for seed production, production of live plant materials for restoration, and curation of seed. This position will be responsible for maintaining production trials and fields in a row crop agricultural setting of three acres. The position will be expected to pursue organic production methods for not only soil fertility but also integrated pest management. The position will be utilizing both hand cultivation as well as mechanized means. The position will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day farm operations on up to three acres of land, a position that requires evaluating soils, cover cropping, row crop agricultural production, insect pests, and maintaining clean fields as free as practicable of invasive and exotic species. The position will be involved in research into restoration techniques using native plant materials, the propagation of native plant materials, and the maintenance and construction of the nursery and farm facilities as directed by the Nursery Manager at the MAPP Center. Intern will also be expected to provide office assistance with data entry and species information compilation. $13/hour, full time. Borderlands Earth Care Youth Institute, Patagonia, AZ

Borderlands Restoration L3C seeks dynamic leaders to facilitate the training of groups of 10 youth interns age 15-18 as part of the 2016 Borderlands Earth Care Youth (BECY) Institute. Educational Facilitators will work directly with BECY Institute interns four days per week to train the next generation of land stewards, provide marketable job skills on actual restoration projects, and educate tomorrow’s conservation leaders about the issues that surround complete habitat restoration. The BECY Institute pays youth interns to learn hands-on job skills in the following fields from conservation experts: watershed restoration, ecosystem restoration, and food system restoration. Educational Facilitators will work in teams of 2 to ensure the safety of the BECY Institute interns, facilitate an engaging educational experience, and secure a productive work environment.
Educational Facilitators will be seasonal employees of Borderlands Restoration, L3C. The mission of Borderlands Restoration is to reconnect wildlife, land and people in the Arizona/Sonora Borderland region by involving people in restoring the ecosystem on which we depend.
